Mission Statement

Now obviously, the main goal for me from this is to make some extra money. But don’t think for one second that I’m trying to leech off the generous. That’s why my donate button is hidden in the middle of my sidebar. You probably didn’t even know it was there.

No, my goal here is to provide you with unbiased analytical reviews, presented in an easy to read and entertaining manner. You could read reviews off mainstream sites such as IGN and Gamespot, but keep in mind that they fire anyone who gives a less than stellar score to any game made by one of their many sponsors. Because of this, they’re known to have outrageously inflated scores. They think Pokemon Diamond deserves a 10 for graphics. Knowing that their scores are based more on how much money is slipped into their pockets rather than a quality based criteria, it would be wise to take any of their opinions with a pinch of salt.

I have another advantage. Let me tell you first that I’ve been around. Literally, the earliest memory I can remember was buying Super Mario Bros. 3 with my sister. It was in a bright yellow box with racoon Mario flying on the cover inside a glass shelf. Over the years, I’ve amassed an impressive collection of roughly 100 NES games and about 60 SNES games, all of which still work, along with the systems. The figures are less impressive for my gameboy, GBA, N64, Gamecube, PS1, PS2, PSP, and of course, my PC, but the idea is that I’ve always been a gamer, and I always will be. Not only that, but I’ve also had a short stint as a professional gamer with 1st place finishes in local Quake 4 and Tetris Attack tournaments, and entered a few Capcom vs SNK 2 tournaments with less impressive finishes. What does this mean for you? Well, you won’t see me complaining about bad controls in 90% of my reviews, unlike IGN and Gamespot reviewers, who play Hexic a few times and then dare to consider themselves gamers. I also have the unique advantage of seeing a game from both a hardcore and casual’s perspective, since I dropped down to being a casual gamer during college.

.

As for movies and TV, well, I can’t say that I’ve watched more than anyone else, but I can say that I’ve watched a much wider range than most (except romantic comedies, since I’m a guy). I can only ask that you trust in my intellectual analysis and I won’t spout out crap like “Hurt Locker is an intellectual movie” because the movie is entirely pointless or “Paranormal Activity is even scarier because of it’s low budget camerawork and effects” because I’m able to recognize that moving tabletop items around with an obvious string is just plain retarded.

That leaves MMA. I imagine most of my readers will be from the western hemisphere and therefore, haven’t really seen how exciting a fight sport can be since we only get Strikeforce, UFC, and WEC here. Well, I never liked western fight shows, and for a really good reason. PrideFC, Dream, and K-1 have always been better. They may not have the best fighters in the world, and yet they always have the more stacked cards. They have a more interesting presentation. The fighters are actually allowed to have a personality. They have a better ruleset that focuses on “work for the finish” so the fight doesn’t end up being 15 minutes of jabbing, running away, and wrestling for position like how 99% of UFC fights are. I don’t care about artificial win-loss records in a fight. I care and write about what us fight fans want to see: excitement, or as Japan calls it, the “warrior spirit”.

“Classic” Series

Some of my reviews are labelled as a part of my “Classic” series of articles. Basically, these are reviews from old stuff that I feel withstood the test of time and are still worth playing/watching even today. I won’t be reviewing just any old classics though. No, I’m going to be picking out obscure gems that you’ve probably never heard of before, because otherwise, there’d be no point. I shouldn’t have to tell you about how awesome stuff like Pulp Fiction, Shawshank Redemption, Chrono Trigger, Double Dragon, Symphony of the Night, and Ocarina of Time are. If you enjoy entertainment, you probably already know about those from other sources. My goal here is to introduce you to things like A Tale of Two Sisters, Joe & Mac, Kabuki Quantum Fighter, Event Horizon, Planescape Torment, and Slayers. Things that failed to gain mainstream popularity for reasons completely unrelated to their actual quality.

My name’s Wan Tung, better known as BoswerLK. Until next time, farewell.
